Description

The Crystal Quest Fluoride Whole House Water Filter is designed to reduce fluoride from incoming household water using high-capacity Eagle Activated Charcoal Fluoride Removal Media. Available from Healthy Hydro Supply Co This whole-house system treats water at the point of entry before it reaches faucets, showers, appliances, and plumbing throughout the home.

This fluoride filtration system is available in multiple configurations, including standalone, with an added water softener, or with an optional SMART Filter for expanded water treatment. Customers can also choose between fiberglass or stainless steel casing, depending on installation environment and maintenance needs.

The system is available with 1.5 cubic feet of resin/media, rated to filter up to 1,000,000 gallons, or 2.0 cubic feet of resin/media, rated to filter up to 1,500,000 gallons.

Fluoride Removal Media

This system uses Eagle Activated Charcoal Fluoride Removal Media, also described as Calcium GAC / bone char carbon, a unique carbonaceous adsorbent manufactured through the treatment and carbonization of selected grades of animal bone.

Bone char differs from standard activated carbon because it contains both carbon surface area and hydroxyapatite lattice surface area. It is produced from aged bone for better efficiency and is used in liquid phase filtration to help reduce organic and inorganic species, color bodies, and many heavy metals.

This media has good adsorption of various heavy metals, helps maintain alkalinity in the adsorbate, is physically stable, and can be used over a wide pH range. The filtered pH is generally increased, although the final pH will vary based on existing water conditions.

Pre-Filtration

Water first flows through a 20" sediment cartridge designed to remove:

Sediment
Silt
Sand
Dirt

This stage helps protect the main fluoride reduction media by reducing larger particles before the water reaches the mineral tank.

Fluoride Removal Water Filter

After pre-filtration, water flows through a fluoride reducing mineral tank containing Eagle Activated Charcoal Fluoride Removal Media. This media is specifically designed to have a high affinity for:

Fluoride
Lead
Arsenic

The media reduces metals through a combination of adsorption and chemical reaction with the media, meaning the reduction process is not reliant on ion exchange alone. It has a uniform particle size, is physically stable, and can be used over a wide pH range.

This stage also supports reduction of lead and arsenic. In addition, ERA® 6500 and ERA® 9500 are included to help prevent bacteria growth within the media bed.

Post-Filtration

Water then flows through a 20" solid carbon cartridge designed to help reduce:

Volatile organic compounds, also known as VOCs
Remaining insecticides
Pesticides
Industrial solvents

This final carbon stage adds another layer of filtration before water continues throughout the home.

Optional SMART Water Filter

The optional SMART Water Filter adds a specialized house blend of filtration media, including:

Two types of coconut-shell GAC, including catalytic carbon
Two types of Eagle Redox Alloys®: 9500 and 6500
Anion exchange resin
Ceramic balls
Tourmaline balls

This blend is designed to help reduce or remove:

Heavy metals
Chlorine
Chloramine
Pesticides
Herbicides
Pharmaceutical by-products
Petroleum byproducts
Other inorganic substances

The ceramic and tourmaline balls are included to help enhance the water and maintain a more alkaline pH.

Optional Water Softener

The optional water softener allows water to flow through an ion exchange resin and brine water conditioner.

A water softener is recommended because the fluoride media may increase hardness in the water. Hard water contains minerals such as calcium and magnesium, which may cause:

Staining on sinks, tubs, showers, and clothing
Less lather from shampoos and soaps
A filmy feeling on the skin
Limescale buildup in plumbing and appliances

Hard water can increase the risk of limescale deposits inside household water systems. Limescale may block pipes and reduce the efficiency of hot water boilers and tanks, increasing domestic water heating costs by approximately 15% to 20%.

Limescale can also damage household machinery, including laundry machines. Water softening may help extend the lifespan of household machines, pipelines, solar heating systems, air conditioning units, and other water-based applications.

Additional Product Options

12 GPM UV Water Sterilizer
The optional 12 GPM UV Water Sterilizer is designed for microorganism control concerns, including bacteria, viruses, algae, and protozoa. UV treatment can disinfect water faster than chlorine without bulky retention tanks or adding harsh chemicals to drinking water.

Leak Detector Valve
The optional Leak Detector Valve detects water leaks within the filter system and shuts down the water supply to help prevent flooding and property damage.

Vacuum Breaker
A Vacuum Breaker is recommended for inline installation ahead of the water filter system. It helps protect against the rare occurrence of negative pressure, or vacuum pressure, in the water line, which can damage filter tanks and housings.

Metered Valve
The system comes standard with a timer valve, which runs the backwashing schedule based on a set number of days, such as every 7 days. The optional metered valve runs backwashing based on a set number of gallons, such as every 3,000 gallons.

Oxidation System
The optional Oxidation System uses ozone for efficient water oxidation and improved water quality. Various capacities are available.

Important to Know

Pinholes or rust may occur on stainless steel tanks in environments with high humidity, where salt is present, or where condensation remains on the tank without being routinely wiped down.

If the system will be exposed to one of these conditions, or if routine maintenance cannot be performed, a fiberglass tank is recommended.
